The name of the third power of Maa Durga is Chandraghanta. The worship of the third day is of utmost importance in Navratri worship and on this day their deity is worshipped.

Name meaning

Her forehead is bedecked with the crescent moon (Hindi: Chandra) resembling the shape of a temple bell (Hindi: ghantaa).

Identification

She is known as Chandraghanta Devi because of the crescent-shaped hourmark on her head. She has three eyes, 10 hands, and she is holding weapons. She travels on the lion. She's always prepared for battle. She had ten arms and a golden complexion in this form. She possessed the following weapons in nine of her arms: a trident, mace, arrow, bow, sword, lotus, goad, bell, and a kamandalu (water pot). With her tenth hand, she bestowed blessings on her followers. She travels in a lion. This passage illustrates how Adi Shakti may be cruel and vindictive toward her foes while being maternal and forgiving with her followers.

Chandraghanta was revered for bringing about happiness, serenity, and wealth in life. She is the courageous apostle and possesses considerable strength to engage in combat with demons.

Story
The following is the basis to the creation of this avatar. Devi Sati self-immolates herself in a huge yagna's sacrifice fire in her past life as Lord Shiva's wife. Ma Adi Shakti (Supreme Power) becomes Parvati in her next incarnation. Her parents are King of the Mountains, Himavan, and Mena in this birth.

Sage Narada insisted that Parvati perform strict penance in order to win Lord Shiva's favour as her spouse. After losing Sati, Shiva had grown aloof from earthly concerns and had fled into the mountains for a life of austere solitude and deep meditation. Shiva, however, backs down and consents to the marriage after witnessing Parvati's determination to win him. Shiva arrives at the palace of King Himavan on the wedding day in his most terrifying guise accompanied with the most bizarre wedding procession. His body was covered in ash, and there were snakes in his matted hair and around his neck.

Ghosts, ascetics, sages, goblins, ganas, ghouls, and aghoris made up his wedding procession. Mother and other family members of Parvati are shocked to see such a terrifying form of Lord Shiva and his bizarre wedding procession. The majority of them pass out mainly from fear.

Parvati adopts the terrifying shape of Chandraghanta in order to spare her family and Lord Shiva from any shame. She appealed to Shiva in the persona of Chandraghanta, begging him to assume the form of a gorgeous prince and elevate his wedding ceremonial. Shiva thereafter emerged as a handsome prince adorned in precious gems. The ritualistic marriage of Shiva and Parvati was celebrated. Every year, Maha Shivratri is observed on the day of their wedding.

Importance

By Ma Chandraghanta's grace, all of the devotees' sins, troubles, physical afflictions, mental struggles, and spectral obstacles are eliminated. She inspires confidence in her followers as she rides atop the lion.
She also exudes tranquilly. A holy splendour surrounds the followers who adore and worship her with their actions, thoughts, and voice. It is stated that they may succeed with ease in any endeavour. Although Ma Chandraghantaa is ever prepared to vanquish evil beings, to a devotee she is always shown as the kind and forgiving mother who bestows happiness, tranquilly, and love.

Dedicated color
